How To Spend Your Last Day At Work

It was my last day at my first day, I reminisced on my interview session with the reverend sister, and two matrons who interviewed me. How I almost cried when I called my bestie on phone that I got the job. A week later, I resumed work at the male ward and I worked there for 2 years and 2 months before I was moved to the female ward where I worked for 2 months, and called it quit.

Two years and four months practicing bedside nursing gave me great moments, I would miss the sense of fulfillment that comes from discharging my patients home, or the beautiful moments I shared with my elderly patients.

Yesterday was my last day at work, and here was how I spent it.

- Bid Farewell to Those Who Matter

I did not tell everyone I resigned at the hospital, I only told those in my unit, my former matron and those I worked with personally at the male ward. I ended my report at 9pm yesterday, and left the hospital last 9. The week had been a busy one for me and I told my patient relative that I was also leaving the hospital.
It makes no sense to me if those who you have a cordial relationship with do not know you are leaving your office, until they find out you have left when a new person fills in your space.

- Make Sure You End it Happily

I started my countdown on Sunday, I dressed my best to work this week. I never failed to enjoy each moment of the shift, even when it was crazy.
Ending your job happily gives you memories to live with.

I took this picture on Monday, I still did not know how to feel about my resignation.

- Clear Everyone’s Doubt

Endeavor to clear every dispute or disagreement with your name on it. Trash out everything, clear your name and leave honourably.
It could be embarrassing if the firm or your former boss calls you to answer some questions a month after resignation.

On Tuesday, my ward was so full. I closed from work 8:52pm.

- Create Memories

I had plans to get a photo shoot yesterday, but I woke up very late and I had to rush to work.
Write a blog post, take pictures, go for a photo shoot, give someone a gift. Just do something.

On Wednesday, I had started feeling the vibes of the resignation. I closed from work 8:20pm.

- Recommend Someone To Fill In Your Space

The hospital is now staff-shorted, and I told a junior from school to send her CV.
Even if you do not work in a hospital, you can recommend or refer someone you know to fill in your space, save your boss from finding someone new.

On Thursday, I woke up late. I gave myself the chance to take a picture. I closed from work 9:10pm.

- Live and Enjoy The Moment

Resigning can give you some dose of uncertainty, nostalgia and regrets depending on how you are going or your reasons for resigning. However, spend your last day at work happy and memorably.

An old picture, I took the picture September 2017. I was just two months on the job

Cheers to this new journey and path!
